Macro Photography

Macro Value Contrast - This is macro photography showing value contrast. There is a lot of value with contrast in the leaves and the shadows of the leaves. The dark values are contrasting with the light values. The contrasts on the leaves are interesting because in the photograph there are different contrasts for each leaf.

Macro Textural Contrast -  This is macro photography showing textural contrast. The tree branch and the top of the sign with a nail shows textural contrast because you have the tree branch which has a hard texture with the different lines and different shapes through it, while the top of the sign with a nail has a rusted texture to it and it does not have different lines and shapes going through the texture.

Macro Natural Light - This is macro photography with natural light. The details and colour in the flower are interesting because you can see the veins of the flower.

Macro Artificial Light - This is macro photography with artificial light. The flower is interesting because it is not like any other flower you would see everyday, the details in the flower also make it interesting.

  1. Research
Great MACRO Photography research images included in your Visual Journal Blog. For each entry you correctly included proper citations (photographer’s name and URL address) for all entries.

    Vocabulary:
You consistently and correctly use the vocabulary components Contrasting Value and Contrasting Texture. When I read you're posting, it is clear you understand the Principle of Design, Contrast, and the Elements of Art, Value and Texture. You are demonstrating a desire to expand your understanding beyond simply trying to complete the unit requirements. Correctly utilizing new vocabulary is a very strong characteristic of a maturing artistic learner.

    Camera Skills and Techniques
You did a great job at controlling your camera and lighting while capturing MACRO photographs. Your Studio Work MACRO photographs demonstrate strong development in controlling the camera setting and you directed unique use of lighting.

Exposure (the light and dark value) - Minor Problem
Your four MACRO photographs involve proper exposure throughout the series with lights and dark values placed where needed to capture and hold the viewer’s attention. But MACRO Texture Photograph needed increased value contrast to enhance the contrasting textures.

    Composition - Minor Problem
This photography unit was developed to help you understand how the Elements of Art, Value and Texture are used to enhance MACRO photography. Overall, your 4 Studio Work MACRO photographs are well balanced involving strong artistic characterises involving Contrasting Values and Contrasting Textures. But you did not properly crop and size your Artificial Light Macro Photograph.

    Software Editing - Minor Problem
During this unit we covered various tools in Lightroom and Photoshop that you did not consistently utilize during the final editing stages of your MACRO series. It is important for a photography student use interesting inspirational images for influence sparks for your use with the software to enhance your own photographs. Learning to be in control of software is an important step in becoming a photographer. Please feel free to ask me for more assistance.

    Studio Work Process
Your MACRO series is outstanding. Your success is not by chance. You continuously worked hard during and out of class. It is very important you continue these positive characteristics. You did a fantastic job at better learning/using Lightroom and Photoshop to complete the assignment. Stronger compositions resulted from you’re visually stimulating researched professional MACRO photographs and continuously attempting to use them as inspiration for your own series. You should be very proud of your accomplishments.

Studio Work Process - Minor Problem
Your MACRO series is strong in character. Your success is not by chance. You continuously worked hard during and out of class. Other than submitting an incorrect size JPG for one Studio Work and not increasing value contrast to enhance texture contrast, you did a god job at better learning/using Lightroom and Photoshop to complete the assignment. But it will benefit you greatly if you reached out for teacher feedback prior to submission. You have a natural eye and desire to succeed. Bringing in your images for teacher feedback is a valuable step for an art student. Make me, and future art teachers, work for and with you.
