Macro Photography

Macro Value Contrast - This is macro photography showing value contrast. There is a lot of value with contrast in the leaves and the shadows of the leaves. The dark values are contrasting with the light values. The contrasts on the leaves are interesting because in the photograph there are different contrasts for each leaf.

Macro Textural Contrast -  This is macro photography showing textural contrast. The tree branch and the top of the sign with a nail shows textural contrast because you have the tree branch which has a hard texture with the different lines and different shapes through it, while the top of the sign with a nail has a rusted texture to it and it does not have different lines and shapes going through the texture.

Macro Natural Light - This is macro photography with natural light. The details and colour in the flower are interesting because you can see the veins of the flower.

Macro Artificial Light - This is macro photography with artificial light. The flower is interesting because it is not like any other flower you would see everyday, the details in the flower also make it interesting.

Portraits

Natural Light Portrait - I choose to compose my portrait with an asymmetrical balance because I thought it would be better to bring out the person from the flowers better then it would be if the shot was a symmetrical balanced shot. I choose to use deep depth of field because I wanted to show the person similar to the flowers. I used 100 ISO because there was a lot of natural light outside. I used space and value to balance out my photo and colour to match and bring out the photo. This person is natural likes flowers and is embracing that in the picture. The lighting contrast showed the person's light and dark sides to the personality. I used a straight on view for this photo and I choose the models clothes, using the colour to balance the photo.

Family Member Portrait - I choose an asymmetrical balance because I wanted to capture my sister and the beauty of nature. I choose a deep depth-of-field because I wanted to capture the whole setting. I choose a 200 ISO because at the time there was natural light but it wasn't too bright. I used line, shape, texture, value, form, colour, space to balance the composition. This person loves nature and she spends most of her time in the natural spaces. I used a straight on view to capture the person.

Artificial Light Portrait - I choose to take a asymmetrical balanced portrait because I liked the brown background to the model. I choose a deep depth-of-field because I wanted the viewers to see the background. The ISO setting was 800. I used line, shape, colour, texture, value, space to balance this composition. This shows the rebellious side of the model, the smoke coming out of her creates a rebellious vibe. I used a somewhat dark lighting because I wanted to have a deep dark vibe to the photograph. I captured this photo in a straight on view. I used the smoke to help tell the story of the model.

Environmental Portrait -  This photograph was taken in a village near my school. I choose to compose my photo in an asymmetrical balance because I wanted to capture the school boy on his bike. I choose a deep depth-of-field because I wanted to capture the boy in his environment. line, shape, texture, value, colour and space help balance the photo. Though the boy is living in a small village, he is happy and adventurous. The lighting help show light and happy life the boy is living. I used a straight on view to capture the boy.

Symmetrical Balanced Portrait - Alex John Beck

I think the photographer choose to take a symmetrical balanced portrait because it would capture the model's beauty. The photographer used a deep depth-of-field because the colour of the background helped captured the photo. I think the photographer's ISO setting was 400. The photographer used colour texture and value to balance this photo.

Asymmetrical Portrait - Raheem Shareef

I think this photographer took an asymmetrical balanced portrait because he wanted to capture a strong athlete. The photographer used deep depth-of-field because he wanted to show the stadium and the lights pointing towards the athlete. This photographer used 800 ISO. The photographer used line, shape, texture, colour, value and shape to create this photograph.

Natural Light - Katherine Bending

I think this person shows a story about a girl trying to find and follow her dreams. The lighting helped the photographer because it shows the light shining through her skin and showing her face expression and her hair which is dark to show her dark and sad side of her story. The photographer used a straight on view to capture this photo. The colour of her shirt is special because it matches the background and her eyes, this helped show the sadness she has lived through in her life.

Artificial Light - Jason Lavengood
http://www.picturesocial.com/photo/in-the-gallery-2
This person is at an art gallery, she looks wealthy and has a strong passion for art. The lighting helped the story because it shows the light and happiness to her life. This photographer captured this photo with a high straight on view. Her long beautiful dress helps show her passion for the arts.

High Contrast Light -Mihály Zoltán
http://weddingphotography.com.ph/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/portrait-photography-techniques-dramatic-high-contrast-lighting-01-12.jpg
The person is lonely, she has two personalities which are shown in the dark and light contrast. The photographer used a 3/4's view shot. The black hat helps show her dark and light personalities. The red on her nails and lips help show that though she is lonely, she is a strong and fierce person in the inside.

Environmental Portrait - Tony Gale

I think this photo was taken at a bus stop in a city. I think the photographer wants to show the model as a brave and has a lot of fashion senses. This photograph is an asymmetrical balanced portrait. The photographer used a straight on view to capture the model.

Shutter Speed

Artificial Fast Shutter Speed - This photograph shows fast shutter speed in artificial light because it captures a frozen movement of the lights on the wheels. The F-Stop # was 3.5 and the ISO setting was 100. The focal point of this photo are the lights, this photo is capturing a light painting frozen movement. The camera was stationary while taking this photograph.

Artificial Slow Shutter Speed - This photograph captures slow shutter speed in artificial light because this captures the lights on the wheels moving. The F-Stop # was 8 and the ISO was 100. The focal point of this photo are the lights spinning on the wheel. The camera was stationary while taking this photograph. There is no blur in the background or in the focal point of this photo but it also is not capturing a frozen movement, it's capturing a moving object.

Natural Fast Shutter Speed - This photograph shows fast shutter speed in natural light because it's capturing the person while she's frozen. The F-Stop # was 4.5 and the ISO was 200. The focal point of this photo was the person. The camera was stationary while taking this photograph.

Natural Slow Shutter Speed - This photograph captures slow shutter speed in natural light because it shows the moving person and she's faded. The F-Stop # was 29 and the ISO was 200. The focal point of this photo is the light stand in the middle ground of this photo. The camera was stationary while taking this photo.

Natural Fast Panning Shot - This photo shows a fast panning shot in natural light because it captures the hand moving with the camera while everything is not moving causing the background to blur and the hand looking as if it is moving fast because it is frozen. The F-Stop # was 6.3 and the ISO was 200. The focal point of this photo is the hand moving. The camera was not stationary while taking this photo because the background is blurry.

Natural Slow Panning Shot - This photograph shows a slow panning shot in natural light because it shows a blurry movement throughout the photo. This captures a moving hand with the moving camera. Though the camera and the hand were moving, they were not moving at the same time. The F-Stop # was 22 and the ISO was 200. The focal point of this photo is the hand. The camera was not stationary when taking this picture.

Fast Shutter Speed - This shows fast shutter speed because the photographer is capturing the coffee and the milk jumping out from the coffee. I think the photographer's camera was stationary because it doesn't show movement from the photographer/camera and the background does not seem to be blurry. I think the photographer used 800 for their ISO setting.

Slow Shutter Speed - This photo shows slow shutter speed because the photographer is capturing the turtle moving and making the turtle the focal point. I think the photographer's camera was stationary because the background is not blurry. I think the photographer used 400 to 800 as their ISO setting.
Photographer - Bill Curtsinger
Panning Shot -  This photo shows a panning shot because it captures a moving train and a blurry background. The photographer's camera was not stationary, it was moving with the train. I think the photographer's ISO setting was 800 to 1600. I think the photographer used fast shutter speed to capture this photo.

Shallow and Deep Depth-of-Field

Natural Light Pair:
Natural Light - Shallow
This photograph shows shallow depth-of-field in natural light. The F-stop number was 8 and the shutter speed was 1/100. The focal point is the tree and the foreground is also the tree. The middle ground is the tree on the right side of the photo and the background is the building. As the F-stop # setting decreased, the camera only took the focal point in focus while made everything else blurry.

Natural Light - Deep
This photograph shows deep depth-of-field in natural light. The F-stop number was 25 and the shutter speed was 1/5. The focal point of this photo is everything. The foreground is the tree in the front of the photo, the middle ground is the tree in the right side and the background is the building. As the F-stop # setting increased, the camera captured everything in focus.

Artificial Light Pair:
Artificial Light - Shallow
This photograph shows shallow depth-of-field in artificial light. The F-stop number was 8 and the shutter speed was 1/100. The focal point of this photo are the cups. They are also the foreground of the photo. The middle ground is the computer and the background is the gatorade bottle and picture and tree outside. As the F-stop # setting decreased, the camera only took the focal point in focus while made everything else blurry.

Shallow Depth-of-Field
Bob Burnquist

This picture shows shallow depth-of-field. The Focal Point of this photograph are the small branches in the front, they are the main point in the picture. The big aperture setting makes the small branches in focus while the background loop is blurry. The small branches are the foreground while the skateboard loop is the background of the photo. There is no middle ground in the picture. I think the photographer chose to use shallow depth-of-field in this photo because he wanted to capture the details of the branch and let the background skateboard loop blurred.

Deep Depth-of-Field
Chris Lambert

This picture shows deep depth-of-field. The Focal Point of this photograph is everything. The small aperture setting makes everything in the photograph clear. The people are the foreground of the photo while the things behind them are the background. There is no middle ground in this picture. I think the photographer choose to use deep depth-of-field in this picture because he wanted to capture the whole setting.

ISO -100

ISO -200

ISO - 400

ISO - 800

ISO - 1600

ISO - 3600
The best ISO photograph was the ISO - 200. As the ISO number increased, the brightness of the photograph got brighter.
